RO vs UV vs UF: Which Water Purifier Is Right for You?

RO, UV and UF are the three most common purification technologies. They are often combined, but each solves a different problem.

When to choose RO

Choose RO if your water has high TDS, arsenic, hardness or a salty taste — common with deep tubewells. See RO water purifiers.

When to choose UF

UF is ideal for city supply water with low TDS. It works without electricity and wastes no water. See UF purifiers.

When UV helps

UV is usually added as a final stage to kill bacteria in stored water. It does not remove dissolved chemicals, so it is rarely used alone.

Many homes need a combination

Most modern purifiers combine RO with UV or UF and a mineral stage. If your water also carries iron, fit an iron pre-filter first — read best filter for iron in water.
